| Volunteer Office Coordinator |
|
United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County is a coalition of 79 neighborhood associations that promotes healthy neighborhoods by providing education, communication, and common community action.
The main office is at 525 West Alma Avenue in San Jose California. A volunteer is needed 10 to 15 hours a week who will staff the office, help administratively, coordinate between the board and the associations, and help organize the annual conference.
This is a chance for a volunteer interested in community service with management, computer and coordination skills to make a difference in the neighborhoods of Santa Clara County.

| 11th Annual UNSCC Neighborhood Conference |
|
The 11th Annual UNSCC Neighborhood Conference is Saturday October 16, 2004 at San Jose City College between 8:30 - 3:30 pm. This is UNSCC's largest and most
comprehensive neighborhood education and networking event. It has over 20
workshops of interest to both individuals starting new Neighborhood
Associations and existing Neighborhood Association including:
- How to start a Neighborhood Association
- How to Work with Your Schools
- How to Plan a Neighborhood Event
- Preparing a Grant Request
- Emergency Preparedness
- Neighborhood Business Districts
The following 2 ( two ) Workshops are very highly recommended and should be
of current interest to all neighborhoods:
- City Government Ethics - a moderated discussion by Council Members Chuck
Reed and Ken Yeager about San Jose new proposed Ethics Regulations that
other cities in Santa Clara County and throughout California are looking at
to strengthen their consultant disclosure requirements. This is especially
important for neighborhood associations to understand who is behind proposed
developments in their neighborhood.
- Neighborhood Planning & Development - Planning 101 - a basic introduction
to the complex and many times not well understood planning and development
process presented by Laurel P of San Jose Planning Department. The Workshop
have been well received by UNSCC and the many neighborhood associations
that have attended it. Comments from the attendees have indicated that they
now understand the basic planning process, what are early indications of
proposed development in their neighborhood and how to respond and when to
express any neighborhood concerns.
We will be sending out additional information about the 11th Annual
Conference workshops in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you
and your neighborhood leaders at the conference to learn about important
neighborhood topics, talk with others about how they have successfully
address neighborhood issues and network with other neighborhood leaders and
local politicians.
Register early and save since Annual Conference Tickets are
$20.OO if registered by October 1, 2004 and $25 thereafter and at the door.
If you want to register send email to conference@unscc.org or call Ken Henning (408)
887-4309 for more information.
